Old Blog Updates

Transferring Blog from the old page...

Last Update Date: 30th August 2007

It's been ages since I updated my website, and hence the information on work is also quiet old. The good news is that the below mentioned project on BMC Patrol finshed off as a success.

Anyways, currently I have a few things on my hand. Starting with the latest "in-thing" - RBA, popularly known as Run Book Automation. I am analysing and working on understanding various tools which support end to end RBA. I've recently submitted a report on the same to KSG and am awaiting his response on it.

I am also working on creating Tools Labs to our MLLABS (mllabs.microland.com). I'm virtualising a few more tools and adding them to our lab scenarios to create more awareness among our engineers. I've finalised about 8 tools which I feel are the right ones to target as knowledge enhancing tools. These include the likes of BMC Patrol, HP Openview, and OpenNMS to name a few.

Will write more often..... Take care!!

I might call this latest update, but in reality this is the first time I am writing on this page. Currently I am working with the Serco OMC to solve the issues they are having with the BMC PATROL installation and Performance Reporting Solution. Basically, someone installed the setup and didn't provide any documentation with it. And the guys had no idea what suddenly was handed over to them. So here I am, working it out for them.

It's pretty simple really - not so much if you wanna think of it that ways. I am working on the setup that is currently running with the Serco OMC office. Now since I am not allowed to divulge a lot of confidential information, I will only mention the part that I can.

BMC seems to be in the habit of buying software and renaming it. They even have a website mentioning an A-Z Products list with New Name and Former Name columns. It's really not funny when your customers have older versions of the softwares and you have just taken the training for the latest versions. You are stuck looking for Patrol Express in your training when the new software is called Portal and the entire compatibility between the two systems is not supported anymore.

Anyways, as I was saying, I have just been to Egham, Surrey at the BMC Business School and taken the course on Patrol I and Patrol II. Thankfully, Jon Coop, our trainer (great guy) helped us understand much more than the course material itself. And also got us the obsolete course details. So officially now, I am BMC trained and pretty much ready for consulting on BMC Patrol, as well as BMC Portal and Patrol Express. I am studying on my own to understand BMC Performance Manager Reporting Studio. Hopefully that will be done soon.

Stay tuned for more update on me...
